New Chapter

I was around 6 weeks pregnant when we took the test alongside James and confirmed that i was indeed expecting our 2nd baby, a new baby brother or sister to both Bailey and Finley. We were both filled with so much excitement and spent the next few weeks discussing names, and planning what felt like the rest of our lifes with our soon to be complete family. It wasn't long before i started to feel our rapidly growing baby wriggling around inside my tummy, everytime i got in to a warm bath or curled up in bed the wriggling would begin. I arranged my 20 week scan to be on the day of James' 24th birthday,we watched the monitor as our baby waved to us and kicked her little legs around, the sonographer confimed that we were expecting a baby girl! we were over the moon. The next few months were spent getting everything ready for Ruby's arrival. In January we went for a 4d scan and got to see her tiny face for the first time! We watched as she yawned, and waved, opened and closed her eyes and played with her cord, never for a second thinking this would be the first and only time we saw you awake and would watch u play. It was on valentines day when i noticed something was wrong, i got in to bed and noticed that she wasn't our usual wriggly self, she would often push her hand out in to mine, or wedge a tiny foot between my ribs, but nothing. The next morning still no movements but i wasn't too concerned as she was due to arrive any day now and i knew that babies rest ready for the big wide world. Later that afternoon i went in to hospital for a check to be on the safe side, both me and James truely believing that as soon as the monitor was put on my tummy we would hear her heartbeat. Unfortunately that wasn't to be, Paula the midwife looking after us, couldn't find a heartbeat and then the consultant confirmed via scan that Ruby had sadly passed away.We broke down and felt our hearts would break. We were brought back the next morning for another scan for measurements to be taken and to get a 2nd nurse to confirm that Ruby had passed away on valentines day. I took the 1st lot of medication 2 soften my cervix and stop the placenta from working. We were sent away for a few more days while we waited for my body to be ready to deliver our beautiful baby girl. Ruby finally arrived at 3.45pm on 18th february, weighing 4lb 10oz and was 43cm long. The midwife who delivered her, Josie, took her away to take prints of her tiny feet and hands and took some pictures, she was dressed and brought back to us ready for her 1st cuddle. We spent that afternoon along with family taking photographs and having cuddles with our beautiful daughter. We spent the night up in 'hope suite' knowing that would be the 1st and last night we would ever share with our long awaited and deeply loved baby girl. Ruby was laid to rest on 17th March following a humanist ceremony at Tunbridge Wells crematorium.
